What types of cars do you rent?

Car Hire Comparison UK: Most rental companies categorise the hire cars and broadly speaking, these are as follows: Mini, Economy, compact, Standard or Intermediate, Full Size, Luxury or Premium, Vans/Minivans (also referred to as MPV's or People Carriers), SUV's and, depending on the location, Exotic and/or Special Cars which may include such icons as Aston Martin, Ferrari, Bentley, Lamborghini and so on. The 'vans' or people carriers are typically available in derivatives from 5 seats through to nine seater. Some locations will also have soft tops (convertibles/cabriolets) available, from a sports car through to a family soft top or 4x4 with a removable, canvas top. Compare Car Hire.

The range is exhaustive and we invite you to look at the 'information' section for additional details on individual vehicles and specifications. Remember, that the extent of the range will be dependent on availability, location and country.

Rental Vehicles with 5 to 16 seats

Rental Vehicles with 5 to 16 seats

A good start to renting a car is determining the number of seats you need and there is a wide choice of vehicles available. These would include:

• Large cars such as estates
• Car or van derived people carriers
• Sports Utility Vehicles (SUV's) and large 4x4's.
• Multi-Purpose Vehicles (MPV's)
• People Carriers
• Minibus/Mini-coach

Car rental companies typically offer vehicles with up to 16 seats on a self-drive basis. Once you get above 9 seats, they are often referred to as a minibus, van or mini-coach. However, actual descriptions tend to be determined by local terminology; therefore it can be a little confusing.

We have put together a list of vehicles, together with their seating capacity (including driver), to act as a guide. Actual vehicle configurations will vary, some rental operators may reduce the number of seats in order to increase luggage capacity, and therefore it is essential to confirm the number of seats during the search process.

Most vehicles with a high seating capacity have little or no luggage room. If you are looking to hire a vehicle with, for example, 7 seats bear in mind that it is highly unlikely that the vehicle will also accommodate luggage for the same number of passengers. In this situation, there are two possible options, to hire a larger vehicle with sufficient luggage capacity, or to utilise a hotel or airport transfer service to get you, your passengers and luggage to or from the airport and to hire a multi-seat vehicle locally.

Holders of a UK Driving Licence need to ensure that their licence is appropriate for the vehicle hired. The DVLA provide further information on entitlements and restrictions.
